Nelson Wong Architect Inc.
PEEL REGIONAL NUMBER 11 DIVISION POLICE STATION RENOVATION* Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
  • Site Area: 3.9 Acres
  • Bldg. Area: 28,300 sq.ft.
  • Cost: $2,700,000
  • Completion Date: 1986

As Nelson Wong was project architect and senior associate with Rebanks Architects Inc., he designed this police station which is located in a growing suburban residential area adjacent to the main arterial roads. A single sloped pyramidal shaped roof encompasses the whole building. The roof is separated from the walls by a horizontal glass strip, providing natural light yet maintaining security for the staff. The square form, being partially lowered into the earth, reduced the need for costly insulated walls and was therefore cost effective from a capital and operating viewpoint.

* Nelson Wong Architect Inc. has recently been appointed for full services in the renovation of this facility. Because of the current trend towards Community Based Policing, the central ground floor area, formerly the locker rooms, has been restructured for the new Community - Police multi purpose room. The male and female locker areas are relocated to the basement area.
